The 3rd section of my orchestral tone poem is up! As before, I’ve exported a “…the composition so far…” which includes a sneak preview of the fourth section, “Beach.” All can be accessed through “The Coast’s” project home page.
Boardwalks are platforms for human activity, and the music I’ve used to represent this (as referenced in the music score tempo marking) is “parade-like.” The parade struts with solo trombone and tuba, then builds in loudness and complexity, anticipating a headlong charge onto the “Beach,” which is represented initially by fast violins.
At this point it looks like each of the five sections will be approximately 1 minute 40 seconds, so the full composition, when completed, will be a bit over 8 minutes. This is short for a full orchestral piece, but it is appropriate for the programmatic goals I’ve set for myself. Shorter works also have a better chance of being included in an orchestra’s program, which usually has longer, more recognizable works by known composers taking up the lion’s share of performance time. It’s still my hope that a real performance may be achieved!
“3: Boardwalk” is discussed and presented on its own page here. You can hear the project so far here.
