“Errant Waltz”: Complete! Maybe…

A “…maybe…” isn’t uncommon for me, but the structure is fixed, for sure, and the thing is fun to listen to. We’ll call finished for a bit. (I’ll be offline and on vacation for three weeks, so its current status is all I have until after that.)

As threatened, this piece joins “Rondo-B’out” as a member of a suite of piano solo pieces called Pianisms, which will all share some characteristics I’ve sketched out here. Since the suite count is currently just two, I’ve spent more time on that spin than it currently deserves , but it’s all a part of an evil plan to push myself forward! (I already have an evil plan for a third piece!)

Like “Rondo-B’out,” this work is pretty demanding of a performer, with multi-voice threads and hand crossings. But it’s also just a bit more fun, starting out subtly and ending with banged chords. The thematic stuff is, as always, present and threaded throughout the work. To see what I did there, you should really read the piece’s project page, where I describe the historical setting and where some of the themes came from.
