Since I’d almost run out of University of Kentucky School of Music courses to take that apply to my interests, I signed up for “Orchestration and Arranging” this spring, for the third time. (In my defense, all three were taught by different professors.) For this class, I was told to select a piano piece to orchestrate. My current professor, Juan Trigos, encouraged me to select one of my own. I selected “Errant Waltz,” the second in my suite of piano works I’ve called “Pianisms.”
I had a blast! The piece’s punchy and “errant” waltz rhythms demanded a lot from the ensemble, and, despite having no “create from scratch” tasks, it was a lot of hard work! But I’m pretty proud of the results.
As always, subject to change, but click here for the piece’s web delivery page. Click here for a listen to the underlying piano piece.
